Try these quick, easy and camping friendly recipes!
1. Camping Fondue
Fondue is normally for a fancy dinner party, but you can do it camping too!
One 220g block of chocolate (or bag of choc chips)
A dash of longlife milk (add to desired consistency)
Fruit or marshmallows (for dipping)
Heat saucepan over fire and add chocolate.
When the chocolate has melted, add milk and mix until combined.
Use skewers, forks or sticks to dip fruit or marshmallows in the chocolate.
This is a tasty variation of the very popular camping snack that kids, teenagers and adults will all love.
2 cups self-raising flour
2 tsp sugar
2 tbsp butter
2 cups milk pinch of salt
Rub butter into flour until it is evenly dispersed.
Mix all ingredients together until a dough is formed.
Divide dough into four pieces and find a stick that is at least 1 cm thick.
Hold dough over fire until cooked.
Take damper off the sticks and use a knife to put jam in the hole left by the stick.
3. Christmas Kebabs
Kebabs cooked on skewers are the perfect camping meal.
You will need:
a metal grate
Beef, Cherry tomatoes, Mushrooms, Eggplant, Peppers, Onion
If you are using wooden skewers wet them to keep them from burning.
Cut beef (or your chosen meat) into cubes.
Cut vegetables into similar sizes and push onto skewers with the meat in between.
Place the kebabs onto a metal grate over the fire and cook for 15-20 minutes. Turn skewers so that each side is cooked.
Seafood is a summer favourite and this meal is both convenient and refreshing.
4 small/2 large avocados, 1 lemon, Salt and Pepper
6 buns, 12 king prawns, Lettuce
Grill buns over your campfire until crispy on the surface.
Remove skin of avocados and slice. Coat sliced avocados with lemon.
Push prawns onto skewers and place on grill over your campfire. Grill each side for approximately 3 minutes.
Place peeled avocado on toasted buns and place two peeled prawns on each bun.
Garnish with lettuce and sprinkle salt and pepper lightly on the top.
